Did You Know?

 • Foreword 3 FOREWORD The idea of a book evolving from a radio series is unique, but then anyone who knows the writer, Professor Sir Henry Fraser, would readily admit that he has been and remains not just an outstanding Barbadian but a trailblazer, who has mesmerised many by his intellect and his work. Taking on the challenge of a radio series is just another accomplishment that he has mastered with the skill of a seasoned broadcaster and in so doing produced easily the finest radio series in the Caribbean. Radio, in particular of the mass media, is driven by its content and a great radio station’s foundation is its content; for Capital Media HD 99.3 creativity and content are our defining characteristics. The series Did You Know? was initially titled Musings With Sir Henry Fraser , a month long collection of five minute programmes celebrating independence three years ago. The idea for an expanded radio series was self-evident and once Sir Henry confirmed that he was willing, the challenge was to find sponsors to support the series which Sir Henry determined should be called Did you Know? Much appreciation is due to Ed Clarke at Sagicor and Ralph “Bizzy” Williams and their teams for readily agreeing to support the series. This book, like the radio series, shall provide the reader with fascinating stories about Barbados, its people, the good and at times the not so beautiful; our journey, our story presented in a friendly yet engaging style. For me, it has exposed amazing historical facts about our people, our culture and our journey of becoming a proud island state. I am fascinated by stories of people like Stede Bonnett andmore recently amore comprehensive view of the contribution of TT Lewis, a white Barbadian whose exclusion from the national heroes list appears to me unjustified. It ought to be part of the Barbadian school curriculum at every level. I am forever learning and being entertained by this amazing, award winning series. I am sure every reader who picks up this book will experience the sheer joy of this unique adventure. Vic Fernandes, CEO Capital Media HD
